I like to sing. I like to sing loudly. I only sing in the privacy of my own car with the windows rolled up and the radio on blast because I do not sing well. This photo is an artist’s rendering of my holiday singing. So far, I haven’t heard too much holiday music. This is a good thing, because hearing Christmas music too soon can send me into a “bah humbug” funk. The television commercials are coming, though. The mall music is lurking nearby, so let’s talk songs we’re looking forward to this season. Here’s a very quick list I put together:
- “Happy Christmas (War is Over)” by John Lennon
This is a song that makes me think of people I love and the future and all the hope that Christmas should bring. Right now, it’s a great reminder of the military men and women protecting us because war is not over. Did I mention I go for the full rollercoaster of emotion at Christmas?
- “Silver Bells”.
This one’s all about bubbles of joy.
- “Feliz Navidad.”
Fun to sing AND dance around the kitchen with. Plus, it stays with me FOR-EV-AH.
- “Do You Hear What I Hear?”
This one makes me cry. Consistently. But I also sing “Listen to what I say” with extreme gusto. Like, a lot of it. I should have been a king, obvi.
- “O Holy Night.”
I can rely on this one to knock me out at my church’s Christmas Eve service. I better come with tissue, so much tissue. A thrill of hope, exactly what I need. This is when I’m ready for Christmas.
Do you have a song that you’re looking forward to? What songs instantly put you in the joyful, peaceful Christmas frame of mind?
